All About | Skin Types
Like with your skin tone, knowing your skin type can greatly change the way you treat it, how it reacts to different makeup and how it absorbs skin products. Hopefully I can give you a better understanding of your skin.
Skin Types
Normal
Characterised by non fuss, easy to maintain and easily self hydrated skin.
Dry
Characterised by dehydrated or easily dehydrated, tightness, flakiness. Typically found in more mature skin.
Oily
Characterised by shiny skin and lots of blemish. Large pores are most commonly found here. Typically found in young skin, most likely due to hormones.
Combination
Areas of the face are dry or normal. The other areas are oily with blemishes. Typically the T-zone is the oily area with the cheeks normal.
Skin Care
Normal
Anything goes. Due to the carefree natural of your skin you can choose anything you want. Here is a great time to target specific concerns ie. anti-aging, sunspots, wrinkles etc. Products that had a benefit in one of these concerns is best for you.
Dry
You want products that are going to add hydration and moisture to the skin. Creams are the best for this as they are heavier then a liquid or gel. Products that add that bit of radiance to the skin due to the moisture lack. Deep moisture overnight creams and masks will also benefit your skin.
Oily
Lightweight, thin gels will be best. The key feature you want to look for is the words OIL FREE. It will greatly improve your skin cause it clearly doesn't need the extra oil. Also look for products that contain blemish fighting ingredients like salicylic acid. It helps prevent new blemishes and clears the current ones. Clay masks once a week will help to absorb any excess oil on the skin and clear out the pores.
Combination
Lightweight products (either cream or gel) will help with the normal areas of the face and not clog the oily areas. Blemish ingredients added to products will be beneficial. Targeting skin concerns can also be added, through masks, eye creams, serums.
Makeup
Normal
Again, lucky things, anything goes! Go wild cause its very unlikely that something will break you out.
Dry
Want more radiant thicker liquids and mousses. Satin finish products will add that missing radiance. A hydrating primer will be most beneficial to you including paying special attention to creases under the eye and nose.
Oily
Again the key words you want to look for is OIL FREE and non comedgenic. Means theres no extra oil nor will it clog up the pores. Matte finish liquid products benefit your skin type more as they keep the shine off your face. Also long wearing/ 24hr products are amazing. Generally these have a matte finish but they help to lock your makeup on your face and keep it from sliding off your face from the excess oil.
Combination
Lightweight and oil free products that offer a satin or matte finish are you good choices.
