Olay Fresh Effects {Shine, Shine Go Away!} Shine Minimising Cleanser
This is a NEW product range from Olay that is targeted at acne prone skin to late 20's women.
I have combination skin which likes more liquid cleansers. With this I've had no tightening of my skin, breakouts, skin irritations and very gentle. A little bit does go a long way. It does lather nicely even with a little bit of water. I've used this both on it's own and with my Clarisonic. I find it cleans effectively both ways, the Clarisonic penetrating perhaps a bit more with the sonic technology.
One thing I noticed when rinsing this off is the feel it leaves on my skin. It's different to other cleansers that I've tried. My skin doesn't feel smooth, instead it feels as if there is a tacky film left on my skin. I'm not sure if that explains it properly but running my hands over my face they catch, instead of gliding over. I'm thinking this is what mattifies the skin. In the long term, this won't matter as it hasn't had an adverse effect on my skin as I haven't had any clogged pores or breakouts.
The first benefit is that it removes 2x more dirt, oil and makeup compared to basic cleansing that gives a deep clean, purify and refresh effect on the skin. This is the main reason that attracted me to try this cleanser as some of my favourite ones like the Cetaphil are very effective and have similar claims. I have no accurate way of knowing if this cleanser deep cleans compared to others I have tired. However I don't notice any dirt or gunk on my skin or pores after using this, so it is effectively cleaning. The refreshing of the skin comes from the smell and cool effect from water.
The '2x more makeup' removal hints at this cleanser also being a main makeup remover. Personally I'm not a fan of using a cleanser as both for makeup removal and for cleaning the face as it won't be effective enough to get deep down through the makeup and wash away dirt off the face. Even so I'd double cleanse to ensure my face is throughly cleansed, but then this defeats the whole purpose of using it in one application.
So I did try using it purely as a makeup remover and I'm surprised at how well it removed medium coverage makeup even breaking down heavy coated mascara! It'll be perfect for those who wear light and mineral powder makeup. It's nice knowing that a cleanser also has the ability to remove any makeup residue the was missed when the bulk was taken off.
Shine minimising is the other benefit. I did notice a more matte finish, nothing drastic though. Adding any moisturiser after defeats the matte effect. I did try one day without adding moisture and over the course of the day the shine stayed away. I did some vigorous cleaning and there was some slight shine on my forehead near the hairline , nothing I would even consider close to looking like an oil slick but overall still a matte effect.
I really enjoy this cleanser. I'm mainly impressed with how effective it removes trapped dirt and oil, the other benefits are a plus to me. I think it'll work for all skin types as it doesn't dry out the skin.
Packaging:
White plastic squeeze tube with a big sturdy cap. The white is complimented with swirly blue, green and yellow theme. The opening is a little bigger then average but thats to accommodate the thicker consistency. I don't find the product to shot out, yet I can easily control how much product I want. Due to the opaque packaging I can't easily tell how much is left, though I can cut it open to get the last of the product out.
Smell:
Fresh soap.
Colour:
Metallic grey with no shimmer that doesn't transfer onto the skin.
Formula/ Texture:
Thick, smooth cream like consistency. It is easy to apply squirting from tube. It's oil free and dermatologically tested which is great for me. It's formulated with kaolin clay to help draw out impurities and minimise shine.
