Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder 'Diffused Light'
Packaging:
Palm sized shiny, plastic maroon compact. The lid features a mirror on the inside and the bottom a domed powder. It easily picks up fingerprints so those who like their items mark free will have trouble with this packaging.
Smell/Taste:
None.
Colour:
Diffused Light - light beige with yellow (warm) undertones. Sheer pigmentation and semi matte finish. I swear there is ultra fine shimmer right up close that is undetectable on the face. Conceals redness and gives skin clarity like a soft ray of morning light. Available in 6 shades.
Formula/ Texture:
This is a fine milled, smooth powder. It feels lightweight on the skin, doesn't create a white cast in photos and is very easily removed with a basic makeup wipe. I haven't experience any irritation or breakouts from using this.
A special thin powder brush is sold individually to be used with the powder but I have found any size of powder brush works perfectly. I do find better results using a swirl and pat motion rather then a swirl and swipe motion when applying this on the face. I feel that it concentrates the powder more where I want it. I do wonder how long this powder will last. Anything over 4 months will be a worthwhile investment in my eyes.

This is the most expensive, raved, loved face powder. I'm sure you're not hearing anything new here. This is defiantly the biggest gamble I have taken in buying a product especially as expensive as it is as I'm not sure if it would be what I'm after.
See I've never heard of another company having powders that create a different effects on the face as wells different shades. Trust me I did a lot of research before I hit confirm order button.
So I did some research on Hourglass's website and found out that the powder is formulated in a way that each shade diffuses the way light is reflected on the skin in different ways. It also brightens the appearance of skin, concealing imperfections, pores and wrinkles.
The formula has what they are calling groundbreaking photo luminescent technology. It's micro spherical soft focus particles instead of opaque pigments used in traditional powers. In a concentrated mass, the powder creates a transparent coverage that helps make the skin appear younger by evening out skin tone with more radiance.
The formula has no parabens, talc, fragrance, nano particles or gluten. It does make me wonder if this contains any type of oil. My skin doesn't do well with oil based products. Diffused Light counteracts redness and blurs imperfections so we'll see if this is so.
I swear there is ultra fine shimmer right up close that is undetectable on the face. This scared me the most as I didn't want this element to break me out. I am pleasantly surprised and how this toned down the small amount of redness around my nose. This being with the sheer pigmentation. I'm not sure how it'll go with those who have larger amounts of redness.
In terms of blurring imperfections it does such an amazing job! It creates a smooth, uniformed texture. This is exactly what I wanted out of this shade of powder. I am surprised especially from the other elements I was wary of, this powder defiantly lives up to it's hype! The skin looks beautiful and well looked after. Bloody expensive but worth it.
If you want additional coverage from your powder then this isn't for you. As you can see from my swatch above, it has sheer pigmentation. So showing the undertone is hard. If you'd like your powder to give you more of a luminous glow, then this shade isn't for you. I'd suggest Luminous Light that has more of a shimmer finish to it.
In my research I have found out NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder and Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder already on the market for a while offer the same effect. So the concept has been available for awhile.
Available:
From Mecca Cosmetica stores, meccacosmetica.com.au for $62 for 10g/0.35 oz. I got mine in America from Sephora for US$45.
